PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Does this describe you?

You love the outdoors, wildlife and care about the natural environment. You want to be part of an exciting and fast-changing industry with a wide variety of career options upon graduation. You want an education from a leading educational institution nationally recognized as a leader in its field.

You’re looking for a college with up-to-date, modern equipment; friendly, personable instructors who have worked in forestry, understand it and know how to teach, as well as a college that’s highly respected in the forest industry.

You are prepared to work hard; putting in full days – attending class, going on field trips, and studying. You have good marks in science, math, and English.

If this describes you, then the Maritime College of Forest Technology (MCFT) can provide you with the education and career you’re looking for.

What to expect.

Each year only 50 students are admitted into the first year. Competition for these openings is intense. Having good marks, especially in Science, Math and English will certainly help in qualifying you for admittance.

Once you arrive, you’ll find your classmates are from the Maritimes, other parts of Canada, the New England states, as well as an occasional student from overseas.

Every year more and more women are attracted to a career in forestry, and our student population reflects that trend.

Don’t let your age or lack of experience be a deciding factor in whether or not you apply. The student body is a mix of different ages and experience. Some are high school graduates, some are in their early 20's, some have industry experience and may be in their 30’s or 40’s. This mix of age and experience provides for a great learning environment.

Our Graduates Say it Best!

Maritime College of Forest Technology gave me many things: The time to focus on learning and soak up as much forestry knowledge as I could possibly jam into my brain; a foundation of technical forestry skills that I successfully use in my work; and my belief in an honest work ethic.

Gareth Davis, Perth-Andover, NB

Attending Maritime College of Forest Technology opened doors and
opportunities that would never have been opened. I was given the tools to build a career and a life. I not only learned about forestry; I learned life
lessons and work ethics that I¹ll keep forever. The instructors are of the highest calibre and will go out of their way to help you!

Wayne Van Dijk, Department of Natural Resources and Energy
